ALBERT PYUN:
KING OF CULT MOVIES

Albert Pyun was a visionary underdog filmmaker who fought his way into Hollywood. Most known for the cult films Cyborg and Nemesis, Albert Pyun wrote and directed some of the most popular sci-fi classics of the 80s and 90s. Underestimated during his lifetime, his films have today incurred massive followings all over the world. His prolific filmology of 50+ films and his perseverance through the worst of circumstances prove Albert Pyun to be a true maverick.

Albert Pyun: King of Cult Movies, directed by Lisa D'Apolito, premiered at the Hawaii International Film Festival in October 2023.

THE END OF THE WORLD

The End of the World," directed by Matt Tyrnauer, serves as a time capsule look back at the creative explosion that emerged from Bennington College in the 1980s. Five distinct writers, including Bret Easton Ellis and Donna Tartt, took the New York literary world by storm, capturing the era's hedonism and debauchery. The film explores the unique alchemy that unfolded on that tiny, remote campus and how it sparked a surge of groundbreaking new writing.

"The End of the World" had its theatrical premiere at the 2022 Telluride Film Festival.

VICTORIA’S SECRET: ANGELS AND DEMONS

A three-part docuseries directed by Matt Tyrnauer. I edited episode 2, The Secret Friend, which introduces Jeffrey Epstein as a long-time friend and financial advisor to billionaire and ex CEO Les Wexner. Epstein poses as a VS model scout to access and abuse young women. No surprise there. Wexner and Ed Razek’s What is Sexy Now? campaign fuels VS’s highly sexualized marketing approach. They go after the junior market in a perverse capturing of young girls as customers that they will keep for decades.

FACELESS

When the freedoms and uniqueness of Hong Kong are threatened by a proposed extradition bill, protesters, using a range of resourcefulness and creativity, come together to defend their city and their beliefs.

Faceless, a testament to the power of unity and the value of community, is a documentary by first-time director Jennifer Ngo. The film intimately portrays four young Hong Kong protestors as they move through the frontlines of the pro-democracy movement in their city.

I was honored to consult and provide additional editing for this film produced by Lorraine Ma and edited by Sam Rong. Faceless had its premiere at the 2021 Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival and will be distributed worldwide by Dogwoof.
