The feature-length documentary directed by Matt Tyrnauer explores the rise and fall of Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, two friends from Brooklyn who created and lost the world's most notorious nightclub. Studio 54 created uniquely themed worlds every night to capture the imagination of the nightclub's eccentric and famous patrons. It was a perfect storm of decadence, excess, and hubris that brought Rubell and Shrager to the ultimate height and ultimate fall, forcing them to reinvent themselves in the aftermath. Studio 54 premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, screened at Tribeca, Frameline, AFI Docs, and other festivals. It received domestic and international distribution with Zeitgeist Films and Kino Lorber and is streaming on Netflix.
